It’s easy to think of Cork (Ireland) as a fairly homogenous group but its history is much more diverse and international than we may think.

Our audio documentary 'Living Heritage’ explores the experiences of residents in Cork from varied cultural background and how their own traditions have fused with the locality.
Your host is author Cethan Leahy.
You have tuned into part 2. In this instalment, you hear from Dr. Manizha Khan and Lavie Olupona. Dr. Khan & Lavie share the strong connection between their respective cultures and nature.
This episode of 'Living Heritage' is a revelation. Their conversations describes the impact of war on nature (Dr. Khan) and beliefs anchored around nature (Lavie). Lavie also shares a poem.
'Living Heritage' is not only an invitation to connect with nature but also to understand different cultural practises of people living in Ireland.
You have listened now to part 2, hope you didn't miss part 1 of 'Living Heritage'.
‘Living Heritage’ is produced and published by Good Day Cork. The documentary has been created with support from Local Community Heritage and Biodiversity Grant Scheme from Cork City Council.
Edited by Daniel Clancy
Music by Justin Grounds

About the guests:
Dr Manizha Khan is a dentist living in Ireland since December, 2021. Previously the Dean of Dental School in Herat University (Afghanistan), she has been a strong activist for women’s rights of education and equal opportunities for work inside and outside Afghanistan.
Host of the show 'My Life in a Suitcase' on University College Cork Radio. She is a voice of refugees and asylum seekers and a strong believer of anti-racism and anti-war.
--
Lavie Olupona is an 18 year old (2024) poet from West Cork, Ireland. A passionate activist, she has been writing since a young age, jotting her words in filched copy books and scraps of paper.
On International Women’s Day 2022, Lavie was invited by TD Holly Cairns to recite her poem ‘Let Our Voices be Heard’ at the Dáil. She was also a (group) recipient of the Garda Youth Awards the same year and last summer an Edna O’Brien Young Writer’s Award winner at the Museum of Literature Ireland.
She has since performed her spoken word poetry at Misleór. Lavie has also performed at Many Tongues of Cork and Young Tongues of Cork - both curated and produced by Good Day Cork.
