Just because you hear a knock at your door, it doesn’t mean you need to answer it. That is true with sin too. As a believer, you are not a slave to sin. You have the freedom to choose how you respond to external influences. You do not need to answer the door when sin knocks.

Just because you hear a knock at your door, it doesn’t mean you need to answer it. That is true with sin too. As a believer, you are not a slave to sin. You have the freedom to choose how you respond to external influences. You do not need to answer the door when sin knocks.
Sin changed our relationship with God and Christ's death changed everything again. Romans 5:12-17 teaches that Jesus' sacrifice changed everything, offering eternal life through His life. We have a new identity as a saint through the work of Jesus Christ. Understanding this will transform the way you relate to sin.

Paul explains that baptism is a symbol of death and resurrection with Christ. Our old self was crucified with Christ. As believers, the power of sin has been broken, and we are now free from enslavement to it. Belief in Christ's resurrection guarantees our own resurrection and new life, as we are united with Him. We can now consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. We have new life in Christ.
Through salvation, we are empowered to say no to sin. We are dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Temptation can lead us to long for the past instead of remembering who we are in Christ. But I want to encourage you to meditate on Romans 6 to understand your identity in Christ, the work He did on the cross, and to know you no longer have to answer the door for sin.
