Sermon: Afraid to Ask? | Mark 9:30–37 | Who Is the Greatest?
Manage episode 441520080 series 2988477
Are you ever afraid to ask someone a question? If you are, it’s probably because you expect it to be an answer you don’t like. Maybe it’s a question like, “How did I do on that test?” Or “What are the results of the PET Scan?” You’re afraid to ask because you’re afraid of the answer.
Today we hear Jesus reveal to His disciples that He is going to be handed over to the authorities, and that they’re going to kill him. “And when he is killed,” Jesus says, “after three days he will rise.” “The disciples did not understand the saying and were afraid to ask him.” But why?
Was it because they didn’t want Him to know that they didn’t understand? Or was it because they were afraid of what that would mean not only for Jesus, but for them?
