Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Dave Weigel, politics writer at Semafor, author of the "Americana" newsletter just one day out from the 2024 election. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on final-day swing state polling, the lingering impact of Trump’s fascist rally at MSG, the electoral drag of Harris’ support for genocide, RFK’s fluoride attack, Israel’s banning of UNRWA and enforced starvation in Gaza, and the NYT Tech Guild strike, before touching on Trump’s ongoing deterioration and Mike Johnson’s wild slip-up over the CHIPs Act. Dave Weigel then joins, diving right into the major Selzer poll out of Iowa, what it shows us regarding Harris’ overwhelming support from women, and what this poll (and others) can tell us about the success of Harris' voter outreach across swing states. Weigel, Sam, and Emma also parse through the numbers behind early voting, why Democrats aren’t particularly pressed about them, and the evolving constituency of independent voters, before touching on the GOP’s GOTV fiasco – led by Elon Musk and Charlie Kirk. After briefly reflecting on the lingering impact of Trump’s Bund rally at MSG, they get into a preview of the Senate fight, what the best/worst case scenarios are for Dems and Republicans across the Presidency, House, and Senate, and what particular races might act as bellwethers for the greater election. Sam also highlights a John Oliver segment on Georgia Rep. Ruwa Romman’s comments on voting for Harris.

And in the Fun Half: Emma talks with Greg from Massachusetts about down-ballot voting and the secret men for Harris vote, dives deep into the context for and meaning behind Selzer’s Iowa poll (with some added commentary from Trump and, later on, Jeff from Iowa), and Tim from Chicago asks about the election night timeline. Tucker reflects on wrestling with his demons (and losing), RFK Jr. sets his sights on fluoride, and Steve Doocy can’t quite put his finger on why women don’t like Trump, plus, your calls and IMs!
