E128: Explaining the 9 Fruits of the Spirit and the 14 Gifts of the Spirit

God has given us gifts and we will know people, who they are and their motivations, by their fruits. You mean, strawberries or pears? No, not that kind of fruit. Mark and Dave dive in to what these are and what they mean.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.“ (Galatians 5:22-23)

“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he BEARS MUCH FRUIT, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

“You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” (John 15:16)

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Romans 12:12)

“One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the Lord, And He will repay him for his good deed.” (Proverbs 19:17)

“He will keep him in perfect PEACE, WHOSE MIND is stayed on you; because he TRUST in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)

While it should be obvious, these attributes or personality characteristics can only be truly manifested if one has accepted the love of Christ. Without doing so, it would be difficult to impossible to imitate or reproduce the fruit of the Spirit.
Personally, I think a lot of folks display these attributes most of the time, even non-church goers. I think the distinction is this: do we remain faithful to show love to those that are currently persecuting us; do we project true joy in the midst of a storm; are we patient in all situations or only when it’s convenient?

”that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,“

Ephesians 3:16-20

”And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;“

He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need. Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.“
