An occupational health perspective on burnout with Dr. Steve Hunt
Manage episode 335786108 series 3356722
Healthcare organizations are complex organisms—you have the power to create a healthier environment for yourself and your employees intentionally.
Explore the impacts of toxic environments on the well-being of physicians and healthcare systems as complex living organisms. When we see teams and elements of our institutions crumbling, we can be sure that something unhealthy is happening. As Steve aptly points out, we're only as healthy as the team doing the worst!
Acknowledging our toxic environments is a first step that allows us to turn toward the challenging but rewarding work of community building and repair. Refocusing on human connection in healthcare may be the medicine we need to heal.
Please take the time to reflect on one step that you, as an individual, can take to respond to the needs of yourself, your colleagues, and your organization. Cultural transformation starts with our small actions to care for each other.
And as always, thank you for listening!
