Rethinking Situationships
Manage episode 385192491 series 3460687
Today we’re going all in on situationships- gasp! Most of the info out there is pretty negative but we’re here to help offer some tid bits and pointers that may have you rethinking situationships.
We start off discussing the difference between a situationship, friends with benefits, and a hook up. Def want to make sure those are all clear first, or as clear as they can be. Lol Then we unpack the different characteristics of a situationship and what they mean or can mean.
Is there such thing as a healthy situationship? The key is communication on where you’re at and what you want and need from each other. Listen to each other and discuss it. Talk about expectations and have regular check ins with each other. This is vital!
We encourage you to check in with yourself throughout the process and know that you can change your mind at ANY time. Knowing yourself, what you want, communicating it, knowing boundaries and revisiting them is all part of the process if you want to make it work. Otherwise expectations and needs can be out of alignment which creates challenges for people including impacts to their mental health.
Shannon also reminds us of the girlfriend experience and to watch out for that when in a situationship. Don’t give all the goodies away like your effort, energy, time, sexual availability and exclusivity, and your loyalty.
When you exit a situationship take some time to grieve and then take time to self-reflect- what happened, how did I get here, why did I allow this, what did I learn about boundaries, communication, my wants and needs, etc. And be gentle with yourself! Situationships aren’t for everyone, but we hope we helped shed some light on things to consider if you’re in one or considering it.
