About Harvey's guest:
Today’s guest, Ed Begley Jr., is a renowned actor, producer, director, playwright, author and environmental advocate who’s brought us many unforgettable performances in a stellar career that spans over 5 decades.
You’ve seen him in dozens of movies including “Battlestar Galactica”, “Goin’ South”, “Cat People”, “Eating Raoul”, “The Accidental Tourist”, “She-Devil”, “Best In Show,”, “For Your Consideration”, “Whatever Works”, “Pineapple Express”, “Book Club”, and “A Mighty Wind”, for which he and his fellow cast members won a Florida Film Critics Circle Award, as well as nominations for a Phoenix Film Critics Society Award and a Gold Derby Award for Best Ensemble Cast.
On television, he is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the long-running hit series, “St. Elsewhere,” for which he received six Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He’s also known for playing “Steve Fletcher” on “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman”, “Gil Buckman” on “Parenthood”, “Dr. Jesse James” on “Kingdom Hospital”, “Hiram Gunderson” on “Six Feet Under”, “Stan Sitwell” on “Arrested Development”, “Dr. Grant Linkletter” on “Young Sheldon”, and “Clifford Main” on “Better Call Saul”, for which he and his fellow cast members received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble.
And he’s starred in numerous highly acclaimed TV movies including “Elvis”, “In the Best Interest of the Child”, “World War 2: When Lions Roared”, “Incident at Deception Ridge”, “Georgia O’Keefe”, “Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight”, and “Recount”.
Our guest is also extremely well known and highly respected for his advocacy and activism in raising public awareness about the need to save our planet, conserve our resources, protect the environment and live a sustainable, eco-friendly and green lifestyle. He’s written 3 books on that subject: “Living Like Ed: A Guide to the Eco-Friendly Life”, “Living Green”, and “Ed Begley Jr.’s Guide to Sustainable Living”. And together with his wife Rachelle and daughter Hayden, he created TWO reality TV series: “Living With Ed” and the multi-award winning show, “On Begley Street”. And he and Rachelle also host a popular podcast called “Begleyesque”. He also has a line of eco-friendly household cleaning products that we’re going to hear about today.
And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest has also written a fascinating and highly entertaining memoir entitled, “To the Temple of Tranquility: And Step on It.” And I should also acknowledge that, for 16 years, he served on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
