175th Anniversary of the Irish Migration during the Great Famine

The Great Famine started in Ireland in 1845. In the following years, many Irish left their homeland. This mass migration profoundly changed the face of Irish culture. At that period, Canada was an important destination for migrants coming from Ireland. In this episode, we speak with Laurent Colantonio, professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal, an expert on the topic of the Great Famine in Ireland. We also hear from Lori Morrison, Vice President of the United Irish Societies of Montreal, who tells us how the Irish have influenced Canadian identity, in Montreal, more specifically.
