This week's guest is director Fan Popo, a prominent figure in China's LGBTQ+ cinema and co-founder of the Beijing Queer Film Festival. In the 2010s, his documentary trilogy on queer communities and their families had a significant impact across China. In 2015, after his film "Mama Rainbow" was taken down, Fan successfully brought a lawsuit against China's National Radio and Television Administration — a landmark moment in Chinese LGBTQ+ advocacy.

Popo relocated to Berlin over recent years, continuing his creative pursuits in a new cultural context. From feature films to erotic shorts, Berlin has provided him with fresh ground, new challenges, and diverse inspiration. In this episode, we explore experiences and reflections on life, identity, and sexuality in a foreign land.
