034. Navigating Life After Losing Support with Greta Strickland
Manage episode 294498118 series 2802457
This week’s guest, Greta Strickland, is a Licensed Professional Counselor who runs her own private practice providing therapy to women struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, and people-pleasing in Kansas City, MO. Greta's favorite stigma to break is the therapist stigma, making it her mission to show others that therapists are just as humans as everyone else - each with their own interesting stories, quirks, and life lessons.
After losing social and financial support, Greta felt as if her life came crashing down. In this episode, she shares how she coped and took it one day at a time instead of looking for the ONE thing to change her life.
Greta shares her humanness and how she didn't necessarily know which way is up, but she knew the best thing that she could do for herself at the time was to do what she wanted in the short term while keeping her long term goals in mind (building her private practice).
She prioritized herself by doing the things that she wanted to do, whether that was eating spaghetti for breakfast or buying concert tickets, or simply doing nothing.
WE ALSO TALK ABOUT:
- How the concept of “why not me” humanizes the suffering
- Fulfillment, what it actually means, and how to find fulfillment in life
- Who can benefit from therapy
- The best ways to find a therapist and how to know it's a good fit
