Episode 72: Danny Bolton Renaissance Man

No offense to any of our previous guests but I have to say that Danny Bolton provided one of the most unique and inspiring conversations that I have had in close to two years of podcasting.
Born and raised in Hawaii, he's experienced so much in his life right out his back door. Spear fishing, hunting, diving, skateboarding, surfing, dirt biking, off road driving and more, this guy has done it all. An active lifestyle that has included jobs in the family construction business as well as working at a coffee shop, Danny can work just about anywhere, doing anything as long as it's with people that he loves.
Don't write him off as an irresponsible drifter, floating from town to town and indulging his hobbies each day. The husband and father has been fortunate to make a living to support his family doing things that he is passionate about. Always a kid at heart, he feels blessed to do what he does even though it's a life very different from how the rest of the world may live.
Making me hungry as we discussed all the great "surf and turf" he brings home for his family, Bolton has hunted here in the lower 48 as well, bitten by the elk hunting bug a few years ago. Able to harvest a nice bull in honor of his late friend that had invite him on the hunt, Danny gives a few tips on how to effectively carrying on an entire elk, rack included, onto a commercial flight.
His time in off road driving as a teen has led to training Special Forces units in the military, a part of our chat that I really enjoyed. While not a service member himself, Bolton has a deep appreciation for those who serve and loves sharing his expertise with them. Those trainings have also given him ample opportunity to hear about the struggles that some of them face because of that service, inspiring him even further to introduce them to archery and the outdoors.
He has also popped up on the popular show, MeatEater, the past couple seasons and enjoyed his time with their crew. A humble man not seeking the spotlight, he had some very kind words about his time on the show and how down to earth Steven Rinella and Co. are.
