Changing The Lungs On A Practiman Basic Manikin
In this guide, we will walk through the process of Changing The Lungs On A Practiman Basic Manikin. Ensuring proper lung and airway valve replacements in your PractiMan manikins is crucial for keeping them functional and hygienic during CPR training. Although the steps for the Plus, Advanced, and Basic models share some similarities, there are key differences to consider when working with each.
Changing The Lungs On A Practiman Plus and Advanced
First, let’s focus on the PractiMan Plus and Advanced models. To begin, remove the head of the manikin to gain access to the internal components. Once the head is off, you will also need to take off the face. With the face removed, you will clearly see the lungs attached to the bottom of the airway valve. Hold the tube connected to the lungs, and gently pull the lungs away from the airway valve.
After the lungs are detached, squeeze the sides of the airway valve and pull it out from its slot. Replace it with a new valve, ensuring it clicks securely into place. The valve doesn’t need frequent replacement, but you may want to have spare valves on hand. If you purchased your manikin new, it should come with extra valves, or you can buy replacements separately.
To reassemble, push the new airway valve back into the head. You will feel it lock into place. Next, take the new lungs and, after unclipping the front of the manikin, attach them to the base of the airway valve. Line up the head with the body, clicking the lungs into position, and lift the head to tuck the top part in. Make sure everything is secure on the sides. Finally, double-check the airway valve and reattach the face, making sure the pegs on the sides align properly. Ensure the airway opens smoothly before finishing.
Changing The Lungs On A Practiman Basic
Now, let’s move on to the Changing The Lungs On A Practiman Basic Manikin. The process is slightly different for this model. Begin by unclipping the four lugs on the side of the face to remove it. You can also unclip the top of the skin or fully remove it if that makes it easier for you to work.
Once the face is off, pull the lungs off the airway valve, just like with the Plus and Advanced models. Remove the old valve and set it aside. To install the new valve, first attach the new lungs to the base of the valve, as you may find it easier to handle this way. Then, position the valve correctly inside the manikin and ensure it is secured in place.
Afterward, bring the metal bar back into alignment with the hooks on the sides of the head. Push the head down into position and tilt it back slightly, securing the top part under the chin. Reattach the skin on both sides, making sure the head and skin are snug. Before finishing, double-check the airway valve to make sure it opens and functions properly.
Final Checks
Once everything is back in place, inspect the manikin to ensure all parts are correctly aligned and secure. The face should be firmly attached, and the airway should open smoothly when tested. This completes the process, leaving you with a manikin ready for training with fresh lungs and a new valve.
