Ep11: You Don't Have to Interview if You do This Instead

In Today’s episode I am going to share with you some of my FAVORITE insider secrets on how to set up your career in SUCH a way that you will not even have to interview for your next job. First, as we go through these tips today, keep this one fact in mind: Each and every one of us is literally a walking resume, whether you realize it or not. And as much as I love a resume (Hello…excuse this next shameless plug, but Resume Reboots are one of the services we provide at ShopTalk), ideally, if your brand makes you a superstar at work, then you might be lucky enough NOT to have to interview for your next position.
To illustrate this point, let's start with a story…I had just travelled to attend my daughter’s graduation from Basic Training with the Air Force. My husband and I woke up around 8 a.m. at the hotel, are making our coffee and are getting dressed so that we can be head over to the ceremony. All of a sudden, I notice a voicemail from an unfamiliar number. Here’s the eerie part...I normally delete those voicemails before listening to them because it’s usually some sort of spam call, but for whatever reason, I decided to listen to this voicemail. I almost dropped the phone when I realized it was my boss’s boss’s boss (You heard that right—I am talking the top of the food chain here) calling me, asking me to call back when I had a minute so that we could talk about some upcoming opportunities. Next thing I know, we pick a date/time to meet at a swanky restaurant the following week, and I was offered not one position, but two.
How did I end up in the position of not only being offered a career move, but also having the privilege of picking which one? Because of branding.
