Hello and welcome to episode #8 of The Blue Water Running Podcast! This podcast features and celebrates the accomplishments of high school and collegiate cross country and track and field athletes from the Blue Water Area of Michigan.

This episode's guest is Dylan Distelrath of St. Clair High School. Dylan recently won the 3200-meter run at the Anchor Bay Invitational on May 3 in his personal best of 9:44, which is 30 seconds faster than his best last year. He dropped a 4:36 in the 1600 meters at the Elite Barnyard Invitational on April 26, finishing 14th in a highly competitive field with an 11-second personal best, then turned around and ran the mile anchor leg of the Distance Medley Relay the next day at the Yale Relays. He also won the 3200 at the Marysville Invitational on May 10. Dylan saw significant time improvements during cross country, too, racing consistently from low 17 minutes into the 16s for the 5K throughout the fall season and was the team’s top runner. St. Clair High School has an impressive distance running history: they hold the record for Division 2’s longest state-qualifying streak, sending a cross country team to MIS every year since 2000. Dylan now sits on the 3200-meter top-ten list at St. Clair High School, comprising an impressive group of all-staters including the 2007 D2 cross country state champ (Addis Habtewold).
We will hear Dylan reflect upon his training, racing, and running experiences and improvements and how they have shaped him as a person, along with getting to know him personally as a Blue Water Athlete.
Until next time, I’ll leave you with this quote by Steve Prefontaine, an American long-distance runner who from 1973 to 1975 set American records at every distance from 2,000 to 10,000 meters. He competed for Oregon, ran on the legendary Hayward Field track, and represented the United States in the 1972 Summer Olympics. He was preparing for the 1976 Olympics with the Oregon Track Club at the time of his death in 1975. “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift”.
Once again, thank you so much for tuning into today’s Blue Water Running podcast. I can’t wait to feature more cross country and track and field athletes from the Blue Water Area…stay tuned because it might just be YOU!
