Hey Lioness,
This week I have the pleasure of chatting with my dear friend Lauren Brock, who is also the Founder and CEO of the Advocacy Group.
Lauren Brock is no stranger to advocacy. It’s her mission, her purpose, and her life’s work. Lauren started on this path in 2000 volunteering with Hollywood’s homeless population. Personally mentored in advocacy by philanthropist Aileen Getty, Lauren met people from all walks of life seeking services through Aileen’s GettLove organization as it scaled from a breakfast line to a full-service day center complete with two hot meals, showers, and case management for bridge government services. Working with homeless children and families there was also Lauren’s introduction to her decades of work with foster youth and court advocacy, with exposure to the Los Angeles’ Children’s, Conservatorship, and Mental Health Courts, and where her relationship with NAMI began.
In her nearly two decades of advocacy work serving the mentally ill and chemically dependent, Lauren has built a level of expertise with the treatment-resistant population that is unmatched. She has a depth of experience in assisting people struggling with addiction to reach appropriate and effective levels of care with successful integration into a life of sobriety. A member of NAMI for five years and CADC trained, Lauren has facilitated multiple groups on addiction, relapse prevention, and grief. She is also an accomplished court advocate. Seeking to share her expertise to meet the needs of millions of families facing addiction, Lauren formed The Advocacy Group to provide the gold standard in advocacy services. She developed TAG’s range of offerings to specifically meet the needs of those struggling to help addicted loved ones who lack the experience to know whom to trust and where to turn for support and care.
Her ability to create a heart connection through compassion allows Lauren to serve all populations in all situations. Lauren began traveling regularly to Haiti to assist in the efforts after the 2010 earthquake inspiring and aiding youth. She is still an active mentor to many of those she connected with, who are now thriving young adults. She has had similar experiences in Iran, Turkey, Lebanon, Tanzania, Ethiopia, the Congo, and Kenya. Lauren is also an active member on the board of ONE Recovery, a nonprofit program of inspiration and connection for young adults and teens to seed abstinence, sobriety, and recovery in the next generation.
