Texas records 4,739 hospitalized for COVID; about 1,000 fewer than a week ago

Texas health officials on Wednesday recorded 4,739 people in the hospital for COVID-19, which was about 200 fewer than the previous day — and 1,000 fewer than a week ago. But the day's total number of coronavirus inpatients was about a third of the summer high of 13,932 on August 26th. The Texas Department of State Health Services reported 647 available staffed intensive care unit beds for adult patients, up from the pandemic low of 270 on Sept. 9. The state had 125 staffed pediatric ICU beds, which was almost twice the pandemic low of 64 beds reported on August 4th.
