This month's TV movie takes us into the time machine for an extra long trip, traveling further back in time than Becky and Jake have gone before. It's the year 1971 in the greater Los Angeles area. Here we meet Johnny Gage and Roy DeSoto, two firefighters who join a pilot program to become something new in the world of emergency services, a fireman who can render medical aid under a doctor's direct supervision—a paramedic. But not everyone is in favor of this change. Only the head of Rampart General Hospital's emergency unit, Doctor Kelly Brackett, stands in the way allowing a bill to pass which would allow fireman the legal permission to perform medicine in the field. Is there no way to change his mind? Could perhaps a piano serenade be the answer? A sudden surprise cameo by two fictional Adam police officers made flesh is more than enough to make this television pilot one of the flagship television series of the 1970's. It may seem commonplace nowadays, but the idea of getting paramedical attention was brand new in the 70s, making way for an informative and very entertaining 90-minute PSA.
