Trauma can shift the way the brain processes emotions, physical experiences, and nonverbal cues. It can trigger the brain to search for safety when aroused due to previous or childhood threats. It's important to not only listen to your body and the emotional dialogue that is playing when it’s within the company of others but to also, communicate what it is that you feel for clarity and to ensure that you’re not misinterpreting a non-verbal cue or characteristic to past related traumatic experiences.
