Misquote: Money is the root or all evil

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. —1 Titus 6:10

φιλαργυρία (philargyria) - Avarice, Greed

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. —1 Titus 6:6-10

Our heart needs to be checked

24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. —Matthew 6:24

Use things and love people VS Use people and love things

How do you know you love something?
-It demands your time
-You prioritize it
-You sacrifice for it
-You experience anticipation/excitement

How do you know you’re a lover of money?
-You can never have enough
-You see it as a way out of your problems
-You think about your status a lot
-You believe money is happiness
-You are stingy
-You want what your neighbor has
-You make irrational decisions
-You are too busy for the things of God
-You hoard

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. —Matthew 6:19-21

Our heart follows our treasure

Delight in the Lord and you r desires will be blessed

-We pray often
-We spend time with God
-We have genuine concern for others
