Jeff Traylor Bio

Jeff Traylor is the head coach of the University of Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners football team. He grew up in Gilmer, a small town in East Texas, and played college football at Stephen F. Austin State University. His coaching career began at Big Sandy High School and then Jacksonville High School, where he coached the McCown brothers. Traylor struck gold at his alma mater, Gilmer High School, where he was named four-time Texas High School Coach of the Year for Class 4A and held a 175-26 record. In his 15-year tenure with the school he won three state championships and the team’s stadium was renamed in his honor. In 2015, Traylor took a job as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at the University of Texas, and was named the Big 12 Recruiter of the Year in 2016. In 2017 he became the associate head coach and running back coach at SMU before taking the same job at Arkansas the following year. Traylor joined UTSA in 2020, where he has found tremendous success. In just his second year he led the Roadrunners to their first C-USA conference championship, and won it again the following year. Over his four seasons with the team, he has led them to a 37-14 record, including a 27-4 conference record. The Roadrunners open the 2024-25 season on August 31st at home vs Kennesaw State.
