How to Be an Interview Teacher
Manage episode 451516035 series 3617150
In today’s episode, let's dive into one of my all-time favorite coaching strategies: transforming interviews into opportunities to teach. While I typically dedicate an entire four-session coaching package to this topic, this episode focuses on a few examples (after trying to use movie sequels that may or may not be better than their originals like Empire Strikes Back to introduce the topic!).
The key takeaway? Helping your interviewers learn something new. Why? Because when you teach your interviewers something new, you stand out as someone who brings fresh perspectives, unique insights, and lasting value. Imagine leaving the room and hearing them say, “Wow, they just taught me something I hadn’t considered. I want to learn more from this person!”
This strategy, incidentally, is also a tangible way to pass the 'airport test', an incredibly outdated and horrifying way to evaluate an interview candidate that unfortunately many leaders (especially in Sales) still employ to some degree today!
Listen to some real-world examples from coaching sessions, including how I’ve helped clients uncover and share the “hidden nuggets” of expertise, such as my one client who is now armed with a unique perspective on discovery and demo meetings, that can make all the difference in an interview.
Listen now to learn how to strategically guide your next interview, deliver dynamic responses, and leave interviewers inspired and excited to work with you!
