A class of medications called SGLT2 inhibitors have been proven to make a major difference for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) with and without diabetes when added to angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) classes of medications. Several medications that have been well studied and approved by the FDA in the United States have shown progression of not only CKD but also cardiovascular events and overall mortality.
