Is it cruel optimism to hold the hope of joy and healing in a time of Climate Emergency and other planetary ecological, economic, and social crises? Cruel optimism is a term coined by Lauren Berlant, and used by Johann Hari, author of Stolen Focus, to describe a focus on individual responsibility that trains people to adjust to a morally unjust social system.
