There will be a debate between Vice President Harris and Former President Trump next month. 2. Audience - The group of people who watch or listen to something. The debate will have a large audience watching on TV. 3. Moderate To lead a discussion or debate. A journalist will moderate the debate. They will be the moderator. 4. Opponent A person who is against someone in a competition or debate. In the debate, each candidate will try to win against their opponent. 5. Presidential Related to the President or the position of President. The presidential debate between Harris and Trump will be watched by millions. 6. Rebuttal A reply to a criticism or argument, showing why it is wrong. During the debate, Vice President Harris gave a strong rebuttal to Trump's claims. 7. Defamation - Saying false things about someone to damage their reputation. Trump accused ABC News of defamation after they made false statements about him. 8. Frankly - Honestly and directly. Trump said, "Frankly, I think my policies are better for the country." 9. Terrified - Very scared. Some people are terrified about what will happen after the debate. 10. Security blanket - Something that makes someone feel safe and comfortable. For many voters, hearing their candidate speak is like a security blanket. 11. Discombobulated - Confused and upset. Blue screen of death - A computer error screen showing a major problem. Trump's computer had the blue screen of death right before the debate. 16. (Brick and) Meltdown A complete failure or collapse. The debate could turn into a meltdown if things get too heated. 17. Change on a dime - To change very quickly and unexpectedly. The mood of the debate can change on a dime if one candidate says something surprising. 18. Anoint - To officially choose someone for a position. The debate will show who might be anointed as the country’s next president. 19. Critical Very important. The debate is critical for both Harris and Trump's campaigns. 20.
