Anne Hathaway knows her audacious new film is eliciting gasps and raised eyebrows.
The film takes place in 1960s Massachusetts, where Eileen works at the local prison alongside colleagues who have ostracized her and endures verbal abuse from her alcoholic father at home.
Then Dr. Rebecca St. John (played by Anne Hathaway) shows up who immediately turns heads when she joins the prison staff. She’s the new prison counselor, a bottle blonde fresh from Harvard with flashy clothes and a hint of trying too hard. No matter, as far as Eileen is concerned, Rebecca is just what she needs, and she latches onto her quickly and firmly.
