Brian J Ramos is a long time friend of Peligrosa. We go way back and in this episode of Radio Peligrosa we go even further back into Brian’s upbringing and influences living on the Texas/Mexico border. This episode could have gone on forever. So many questions so little time. Also, I intro this episode as episode number six before I realized having Juanca on before made more sense, it’s number 7. Brian J Ramos is an Austin-based composer, producer, production sound recordist, mix engineer and sound designer whose work spans across film, television and the music industry. His global and national clients have included Google, Pandora, Showtime, Universal Records, Sony, Acura, HBO, ESPN, AMC, PBS, A&E and FX Networks. His local contributions include work with Revelator, La Neta, Austin Film Festival, Discos Peligrosa, Cine las Americas, KUT 90.5 Austin, Troublemaker and The University of Texas. He’s also worked with several notable Austin-based filmmakers including Miguel Alvarez, Bradley Beesley, David Modigliani, Aman Johnson and Louisiana Kreutz. Brian helped to create and produce the nationally syndicated public radio series, On Story from Austin Film Festival and Public Radio International and was a founding member of both Grupo Fantasma and Master Blaster Sound System. Our discussion is part of Peligrosa’s 11th annual Mexican Independence Day Celebration and is a project supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department. Juan Camilo Agudelo Junca and I (Orión) have been having these discussions for over ten years (usually backstage at a Peligrosa party) and it’s really awesome to finally have him share some of his studies and interests with us in this (new to us) podcast format. What I always found interesting in our conversations was that we were able to discuss quandaries, studies and observations in such a way that I always left each of our conversations with greater interest in the subject matter. Welcome back. In this episode of Radio Peligrosa, King Louie talks with Orión García about footwork, old Peligrosa SX parties, Principe Q’s chanclas and more. As noted in the podcast i’ll leave some notes here so you can check out some of the things we’re talking about. Louie ask’s about footwork and Orion didn’t say much so briefly and super generally, Footwork is an offshoot of Juke House, Juke House/Chicago Juke is a progression of Ghetto House starting in the late 90s in Chicago, upping the bpms to 160 and using drum machines instead of drum samples. Okay so here’s the picture of Diplo we talked about but I don’t think that’s Maluca, also I’m not entirely sure this is Iron Gate. Either way the Peligrosa SX party that year was awesome. We teamed up with Tormenta Tropical and check the line up like woah. It was 2010 so a lot of Orion’s posters and parties said Raw Word Records, which was never technically a label, lol.
