Traditional healer Makhotso Mofokeng, known as Gogo Maweni, has been granted bail of R5,000 by the Protea magistrate's court. She is charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, for an incident in 2019. The bail was granted despite the court being told she withheld critical information relating to her previous convictions in her first appearance, which include fraud. The EFF laid a corruption charge against public works minister Dean Macpherson at the Pretoria Central police station on Wednesday. According to the EFF, the minister allegedly interfered in the tender affairs of the Independent Development Trust (IDT). The IDT is mandated to support all spheres of government with social infrastructure management and programme implementation.Speaking outside the police station, EFF secretary-general Marshall Dlamini said the party has enough “evidence to prove the minister was involved in tender interference at the IDT”.…
 
Jamie Holley, CEO of Traxion, Africa’s largest private rail and rail services company, tell Peter Bruce in this edition of Podcasts from the Edge that the company is dead keen to participate in the long-promised concessioning of rail routes owned by Transnet to the private sector and now that Transport Minister has released an almost complete Network Statement the final preparations for the award of concessions are in place. But there’s a problem. Transnet's track and systems are old and broken, in “a critical state of disrepair” according to the statement. And Transnet, which moved 226m tonnes of bulk and freight in 2017/18 managed only 152m tonnes in 2023/24. So while train operators are lining up to run on the Transnet corridors, the track and the systems on them need eye-watering investment. If the government get the money flowing it could make a huge difference to our fortunes and Holley believes it will. And it wasn’t the truck that forced rail off the rails he reminds Bruce, “it was just maintenance"…

ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says the ANC's plan to reconfigure its provincial executive committees (PECs) in Gauteng and KZN will not affect government work. This means that Panyaza Lesufi will remain as Gauteng premier of the province while S'boniso Duma is likely to continue as Economic Development MEC in KwaZulu-Natal. During a media briefing on Monday, Mbalula said the national officials must put forward the proposal for reconfiguring the two provinces within a week.…
 
A manhunt has been launched for the alleged illegal mining kingpin who surfaced from shaft 11 in Stilfontein last week. By Thursday, 78 bodies had been retrieved and 246 illegal miners were rescued. However, the true extent of the tragedy continues to unfold. According to police statement, police officials aided the kingpin to escape from custody after surfacing from shaft 11 last week. The kingpin, known as Tiger, was never booked into any police station where some illegal miners are being kept. He was also never admitted to a local hospital for medical care.…
