Manage episode 346831347 series 3003280
Velkommen til Poulsbo, Washington! Poulsbo is located on Liberty Bay in North Kitsap County west of Seattle. Nicknamed "Little Norway," the town was founded in the 1880s by Norwegian immigrant Jørgen Eliason. Eliason was joined by other Scandinavians who relocated from other Midwestern States because of the areas similarities to their home countries. The downtown is Scandinavian themed and even has a 12 foot tall Norseman statue located in the heart of town. The primary language of the town was Norwegian until World War II, when an influx of workers for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard tripled the town's population in three years. Poulsbo holds it's annual Viking Fest every May to celebrate it's rich heritage. We hope you enjoy our trip to Poulsbo!
