On this episode of the R&G Tech Studio, private equity partner Mike Roh sits down with technology, media & telecommunications co-lead Ed Black to discuss the significant private equity-backed technology deals that led him to win the prestigious honor of “Dealmaker of the Year—Technology, Media & Telecommunications.” Mike is a highly sought-after private equity attorney known for his impressive track record of advising leading PE firms on leveraged buyouts, public and private M&A, PIPE investments and complex multi-jurisdictional transactions. From 2021-2022, Mike and the Ropes & Gray team worked on two notable transactions for McAfee, a TPG-backed enterprise software company. The first deal consisted of carving out and selling McAfee’s enterprise software business from the consumer business, and then subsequently, selling the consumer business to a consortium of private equity investors. Throughout the episode, Mike and Ed talk about the complexities of the transactions and how the current political climate impacted the deals.
