This week, in what might be the funniest episode yet, Molly and Emese are joined by co-stars Amy Schumer and Brianne Howey. They get candid about motherhood, career evolution, and their new film, Kinda Pregnant —which unexpectedly led to Amy’s latest health discovery. Amy opens up about how public criticism led her to uncover her Cushing syndrome diagnosis, what it’s like to navigate comedy and Hollywood as a mom, and the importance of sharing birth stories without shame. Brianne shares how becoming a mother has shifted her perspective on work, how Ginny & Georgia ’s Georgia Miller compares to real-life parenting, and the power of female friendships in the industry. We also go behind the scenes of their new Netflix film, Kinda Pregnant —how Molly first got the script, why Amy and Brianne were drawn to the project, and what it means for women today. Plus, they reflect on their early career struggles, the moment they knew they “made it,” and how motherhood has reshaped their ambitions. From career highs to personal challenges, this episode is raw, funny, and packed with insights. In this episode, we have a very serious debate about our core premise. Is the idea of a show about Myths and Legends better suited for Radio? What story options does investigating if a legend is true or not give us? Do we like the idea of a Myth based show better than the characters and precinct we have already created? What should we do about this? What is going to happen in the next 30 minutes will blow your mind, especially minute 23! (Disclaimer: No minute will blow your mind. You are totally safe from mind related blowing.)…
In this episode, we (Lee, Helen and Steve) choose which characters and precinct will be developed further, dive deep into the characters and the relationships between them and how that interacts with the precinct. We really hone in on the themes that we want to explore with the show and how they should support every choice we make. At the end, we have a set of characters and a location (i.e. precinct) in which to set the show.…
Episode 4 announces the show that we have selected to take through this process and why we chose it. We agree on what we are going to actually write as part of this podcast, and dive into the character and precinct for the show. Character drives everything. It cannot be stressed enough that often times you won't remember the plot of every TV show you've watched, but you remember the characters, so we start there. Organically linked to the characters is the precinct, i.e. where the show is set and revolves around (the apartments and Central Perk in Friends, the bar in Cheers etc.).…
Episode 3 is entirely dedicated to the Oddity Desk show idea from Lee and Steve, so far untitled though Lee really likes "Odd Town". We discuss framing, i.e. what basically happens in the show every week, any comparisons to other successful shows that we feel captures the heart of the idea, what type of comedy will be in it, who the show is targeted at and what types of platforms are we intending to carry it. All of these aspects must be thought through when creating a new show. Then we talk about the extent to which 'fantasy' plays a role in the show and what that might mean for its chances of selling. Plot Twist: We do not decide in this week's episode which idea to take forward, but we promise to decide for next time ;-)…
Episode 2 is entirely dedicated to the 1875 knife crime show idea from Helen, called "Scuttlers". We throw out some ideas on how we feel the show should be framed, i.e. who do we follow and base the show on? We discuss some real-world events from that time period which are great fodder for authentic sub-plots, debate which platform would be best to distribute the show. Before you really get going on a new show, you must understand who you are making it for, so we chat about the target demographic and how they view TV content. Finally, we talk about why we want to make this show, "why us" and "why now". Next week we will do the same for the other show idea.…
Episode 1 - Pitching Ideas The first episode of The Vomit Draft podcast has Helen, Steve and Lee introduce each other, describe what the podcast is about and why they're doing it, i.e. to develop a TV series from idea to screenplay. It then has each of them pitch two ideas to each other for a TV show. What then follows is discussion, debate and development of those pitches so that they can shortlist two ideas to take through to next week. You will hear them pick at the ideas trying to find the essence of each one and marrying that with what they understand the industry is currently looking for. They discuss different formats (CDS, mini-series, returnable etc.), the platforms and channels that might be suited to the shows (streaming, broadcast [BBC, Ch4, Sky etc.]), budget considerations and a lot more whilst they try to stay on subject and not insult each other too much! Dive in and experience what it is like to develop a show and be in a writer's room. Next week they will examine their shortlist in more depth, understand what themes they want to explore, start to build characters and really get to grips with what their personal connection is to the concept.…
