Welcome to the 25th episode of the Nordic Surfers Magazine Conversations Podcast. This week’s podcast is an interview with one of the best surfers to come out of Indonesia – Marlon Gerber. Marlon Gerber was a long way from Indonesia when this interview took place, in fact, he probably couldn’t have been any further away from his tropical home. We sat down for this podcast episode up in Lofoten during the month of March while Marlon was up there shooting and documenting his experience with Tim Latte for the recently released Clash of Climates film project. Clash of Climates has recently gone live online for you all to enjoy and this podcast episode, sponsored by Kona Brewing, is a companion to it. Enjoy this chat and if you haven’t seen Clash of Climates yet, follow this link to check it out: http://www.nordicsurfersmag.se/article/clash_of_climates1 www.nordicsurfersmag.se www.instagram.com/nordicsurfersmag http://shop.nordicsurfersmag.se/…

Welcome to the 24th episode of the Nordic Surfers Magazine Conversations Podcast. This episode features none other than Keith Malloy. Keith has been a shaper of surfing culture for quite some time now, through his work with Patagonia as an ambassador and film-maker, but also through his seminal work ‘Come Hell or High Water’. We caught up with Keith in Hawaii following the conclusion of the Pipeline Bodysurfing Competition and discussed the event at Pipeline, his career trajectory as a professional surfer, regenerative agriculture, and what he has in store for his next ‘torpedo people’ film. It’s a beauty of a podcast and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of Kona Brewing. Enjoy! Welcome to the 23rd episode of the Nordic Surfers Magazine Conversations Podcast presented by Kona Brewing and their Big Wave Golden Ale. This episode features a recent interview with John Malmqvist who is the co-founder and manager of Surfers Lodge Peniche but also the central character in a new documentary on SVT called En Sjukt Stor Våg which follows John as he sets out on a mission to tow into huge Nazare. The documentary is mind-blowing and John’s story a truly inspiring and adrenaline filled one. A huge thanks to John for taking the time to chat. This podcast episode is epic! This episode is also brought to you by Kona Brewing and their Big Wave Golden Ale. As many of you know, winter is usually the time when swells are more consistent in the Nordics and journeys must be had when the winds blow strong enough. When it all comes together, it can be the stuff of legend. It’s just the same in Hawaii, sort of… During the winter months, the Hawaiian Islands are legendary too, with the islands' north and west coasts seeing waves that often climb up to 40 feet. Now that summer seems to be going (or even gone) it's time to reminisce the days and nights enjoyed with friends and family while steeling ourselves for the opportunities that Fall and Winter will provide. Don’t despair the cold - the Baltics are finally starting to light up and local breaks are delivering the goodies. Welcome to the 22nd episode of the Nordic Surfers Magazine Conversations Podcast. This episode features the final moments that lead up to Heath Joske’s speech at the Equinor AGM on behalf of local people in the Great Australian Bight. The podcast goes behind the scenes during the day of the Equinor AGM and covers shareholder activism and what it is trying to achieve. Hopefully this episode of the Nordic Surfers Magazine Conversations Podcast provides some insight and education into what this type of effort is all about and why it is important. The Fight for the Bight continues, with activists and everyday people in Australia maintaining civic and political pressure there. It is having its ups and downs, but they are certainly not giving up. For those of us in the Nordics, there is plenty to do when it comes to educating friends and family about the issue, as well as taking part as best we all can directly. We hope you enjoy this podcast episode and look forward to fighting this fight together moving forward. Welcome to the 19th episode of the Nordic Surfers Magazine Conversations Podcast which features a very insightful conversation with board member and project manager at Natur og Ungdom, an 8000 strong organization in Norway that is concerned with the environment we share. This was recorded on the eve of the Equinor AGM and provides a very clear picture of what the youth of Norway are thinking when it comes to Equinor and their plans to continue exploring for fossil fuels. Very much a must-listen! Hosted by NSM Associate Editor and Senior Writer Joshua B. Kirkman this special edition of the podcast series will include interviews with the key stakeholders involved in resisting Equinor as well as members of a delegation of concerned environmentalists, Traditional owners and surfers who are making their way to Norway to show the leaders at Equinor that drilling in the Bight simply isn’t right. If you have been living under a rock, the Fight for the Bight has seen protesters in their thousands ‘paddle-out’ at beaches around Australia to send a clear message to politicians in Australia and Equinor that the surfing community will not stand for this proposed drilling for oil in Australia, or in other sensitive marine environments. This is a unique time in history where surfers are taking a stand in large numbers – the ground swell is real. www.nordicsurfersmag.se www.instagram.com/nordicsurfersmag https://shop.nordicsurfersmag.se/ https://nu.no/…

Nordic Surfers Mag Conversations Podcast

This episode is part of the food campaign that we launched in our last print issue of the magazine. This week Josh shares a conversation he had with fly fishing activist Mikael Frödin who has been busy of late, campaigning to ban open net salmon farms in Europe. Mikael’s work has seen him in the courts in Norway, and also featured in Patagonia’s latest documentary titled ‘Artifishal’. The impacts of open net salmon farms aren’t very well understood in the public, yet we are all certainly connected to it – the Nordic diet loves lax! More information about the upcoming public screening of Artifishal in Stockholm can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2228406147407987/ The petition calling on European leaders to ban open net salmon farms is still live and has over 100 000 signatures already. Welcome to the 11th episode of the Nordic Surfers Magazine Conversations Podcast, a podcast hosted by NSM Senior Writer Joshua B. Kirkman where he meets and interviews special guests from the surfing world both here in the Nordics and further abroad. This episode is a little different from previous ones, as it is part of the food campaign that we launched in our lastest print issue of the magazine. This week’s podcast is an interview with Karina Barquet, a Research Fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute who discusses Baltic Sea health and the research she is doing through an EU-funded project called Bonus Return that is focused on eco-technologies that reconcile key conflicting challenges inhibiting sustainable development in urban and rural settings within the Baltic Sea Region whilst reducing nutrient enrichment and carbonization in water bodies. It’s quite an interesting topic and initiative and one that is connected to the food we eat and the place that many of us love to surf. Karina herself has a background in Human Geography (PhD) from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Development Studies (MsC) from Lund University, and Peace and Conflict Studies (Ba) from Malmö University. Karina’s research focuses on the political and social dimensions of environmental governance, with key themes including: environmental security, transnational governance, political ecology, border studies, and politics of scale. More information about the Stockholm Environment Institute can be found here: https://www.sei.org/ Information about the BONUS RETURN initiative that was discussed in the podcast can be found here: https://www.sei.org/projects-and-tools/projects/bonus-return/ We still have copies of our latest edition, number 28 and also older copies of NSM on our website too. Collect the whole library by following this link: http://shop.nordicsurfersmag.se/ This 11th episode of the Nordic Surfers Magazine Conversations Podcast is brought to you by Oatly. (https://www.oatly.com) They are the people that make vegan, plant-based oat drinks that provide maximum nutritional value and minimal environmental impact. As many of you know it is important to think about what we eat and drink if we want to have a planet to live and surf on in the future. Swapping cow’s milk for oat drink in your coffee or on your cereal can save 80% on greenhouse gas emissions. Since we are talking about keeping the Baltic clean in this episode, Oatly would like you to know that in Europe, we consume about 70% more protein than our bodies need, most of which comes from animals. Some of that excess protein gets turned it fat, and some of the protein which contains nitrogen ends up in Baltic because eventually we have to urinate, either in your wetsuit or back on land in a proper facility. Regardless of your preferred form of discharge, unnecessary nitrogen in the Baltic isn’t something positive for surfers, so it’s worth thinking about. Oatly also sponsors Freddie Meadows and because Freddie knows all of this already, he has nothing to do with supplying excess levels of nitrogen into the Baltic. Thanks Freddie for keeping the Baltic clean and for drinking your oats. illustration by Blaze Syka www.blazesyka.com www.nordicsurfersmag.se www.instagram.com/nordicsurfersmag http://shop.nordicsurfersmag.se/…
